Today, as I sat down to think about this topic, I started to think about the difference between “ego” and “self confidence” and how it applies to the disc jockey industry. Ultimately, how does this affect the consumer. I have been in this industry over 20 years, and I realize that most entertainers have an ego. However, we have to be careful that our ego’s do not get in the way of our professionalism and how we service our clients.
Entertainers have to remember to keep the client’s vision as first priority. The second priority as the professional is to let them know what works from a professional standpoint. Listening to the client is key. Always remember that it is their event and not yours. Here are some key points for the consumer.
1. Have a vision of how you want your event to be.
2. Talk to friends and family who have used an entertainment company that they were happy with. Great referrals go a long way.
3. Interview entertainment companies of your choice and see who will best accommodate your needs.
4. Flexibility from your entertainment company is key.It is your event and as a paying consumer, you are a part of the decision process as to how your event is performed.
5. Make sure you are comfortable with their style of entertaining.
Always remember, you (the consumer) are in the drivers seat and we (the entertainment company) should deliver on what was agreed to. You deserve to have what you want on your special event within reason. The entertainment company is here to enhance your day and make it as enjoyable as we can. Keep in mind, we are professionals and should be professional on the delivery of our product.
